Interview with Jag Shoker of Inspired Movement

Today I am presenting another written interview with Jag Shoker. Jag is a leading performance coach and the founder of Inspired Movement TM – a high performance coaching and consultancy business for business leaders, sports professionals and creative performers.

1. Can you tell us more about Inspired Movement and your background with coaching?

Inspired Movement is the term I use to describe the high performance state of being able to make the right moves at the right time. This quality represents the defining mark of any successful individual regardless of what it is they do or indeed who it is they choose to be. Whenever I coach one of my clients, who largely consist of senior business leaders, sports professionals or creative performers working in the entertainment industry, I do so with the aim of helping these individuals become more effective at making the right moves that will help them to achieve a significant goal or a transformational change that they deeply desire.

I qualified as a personal performance coach over 12 years ago, and began initially working with senior business leaders outside a long standing role I held at Barclays where I worked as a Regional Business Development Director. The more I coached, the more I realised that this was what I wanted to do. That unswerving passion helped me to build a business doing what I loved – helping others to succeed.

2. What motivated you to write a book about becoming successful? Can you share some brief information about the book?

When I was in my early twenties I came close to becoming a professional footballer but unfortunately I never quite succeeded. Ever since then I became fascinated by what makes certain individuals succeed. I spent years researching the field of human performance and potential in an attempt to discover the defining factors that create success. Naturally I uncovered a lot of useful information which I deeply wanted to share with others in the hope of helping them to succeed in achieving some important or significant goal.

I decided to channel all my work into my latest book, The 7 Master Moves of Success which includes key research in fields such as psychology, neuroscience and expert performance as well as penetrating insights into what makes the top performers in business, sport and entertainment tick. My desire behind the book was to bring the science and inspiration behind success to life. The 7 Master Moves combine together to create the high performance state of Inspired Movement – the ability to make the right moves at the right time.

3. What do you believe are the most common reasons people fail when it comes to business or other endeavors?

There are as many reasons why people fail as there are which explain why others succeed, however one of the fundamental reasons from which many others develop is that many of us underestimate the time and effort that is required to achieve excellence in their profession or that is needed to help a newly found business to find a firm and progressive footing. Unfortunately we live in a culture where it is common to expect too much too soon. If success is anything, however, it is the triumph of persistence and patience.

4. How have you gone about marketing your book, what’s working for you?

Social media and the press are naturally great channels through which to promote the book. However in promoting the book, both my publisher (Bennion Kearny) and I have worked hard to ensure that any communication about it incorporates its defining difference to many other self-improvement books. The 7 Master Moves of Success contains both theory and practise, science and inspiration. It brings together what I believe is a much needed synthesis of many factors that create success. In essence, I see it as an evidence-based meta-theory of what really works.

The fact that this book is different to many other titles in the same genre is an important marketing message which we’ve conveyed through multiple platforms such as twitter, facebook, Linkedin etc. Ultimately however, as with all books, word of mouth will have the defining word on how well we’re able to get this message ‘out there’.

5. What are your future plans for 2014 and beyond?

In addition to continuing my performance coaching work with talented individuals and organisations that are seeking to achieve significant goals or powerful transformation changes, 2014 is all about helping The 7 Master Moves of Success to find its audience – driven individuals who are prepared to work hard to achieve the success that matters most to them.

Beyond 2014, are plans to work with an increasingly diverse and international client base and to begin work on shaping another book!
