Today I am presenting another written interview with Shane Hampson of Blue Fusion Digital, a digital marketing agency.

1. What got you interested in starting a digital marketing company?
My interest in starting a digital marketing agency really just came from my job experience. In the last 5 years I have worked for a variety of different digital marketing agencies and held many different job titles at those agencies including 2 years at one of the largest agencies in the U.S.A. They were an INC. 500 internet marketing company that did everything and had a in-house department for each platform (SEO, PPC, Reputation Management, Local Search Engine Optimization, Social Media and Content Writers)
I started in the sales division of the reputation management division and eventually became the department head but along the way I really tried to stay balanced in my learning of the internet marketing scene.
My experience expands beyond working for only the largest internet marketing companies though, I was also the director of sales for a really cool web design company that specializes in custom banner ads and custom website design and development. When it comes down to it, this job was really the missing ingredient that tied my “recipe” together.
The cool thing about working with both the largest internet marketing company in the USA and some of the smaller but ultra creative and passionate smaller agencies is that I have got a great perspective of both worlds. I have really built Blue Fusion Digital to be a very efficient digital marketing agency that utilizes the best tools the world has to offer us but run it like a larger company where everything is scalable.
2. What are some of the most common requests your clients make today in terms of growing their business?
That is a great question, we have some really amazing clients and are blessed to be able to sort of pick and choose who we want to work with. Just like when I hire people to work for me, I am always seeking people that are going to be a good fit. The way we work with our clients is the same deal, we want to qualify them to make sure they understand what they can expect from us on a monthly basis. We absolutely will not over sell expectations to make a sale, brand equity is built from the beginning of the sales process and our sales team understands that.
I told you all of that to better frame my answer, luckily, we don’t get a bunch of crazy clients with crazy off the wall demands like I have experienced at other companies. The biggest request our clients make is they want to understand how to read our reporting, which makes a ton of sense, the beautiful thing about internet marketing is how easy it is track your growth. Our account managers do a great job in making sure the clients understand what they are reviewing when we send it to them and discuss on our strategy sessions.
3. How have you gone about finding new clients and what’s working for you?
Well, if I told you that I would have to kill you! No, No, No, all kidding aside we have been very lucky to get business from happy clients who refer us to the people they know, love and trust. (It probably doesn’t hurt that we have a killer referral program haha!)
As far as inbound leads are concerned we do what most digital marketing agencies do, we find niches and verticals that are proven to market successfully online and target those.
4. What are 2 or 3 White Hat SEO methods you use today for your clients that are fast, easy and effective?
-We have always been a big believer in doing a correct website silo, in my opinion it is one of the most important factors to doing white hat seo.
-We also are big advocates of VSEO or Video Search Engine Optimization. There isn’t to many things more engaging online then a well produced video sitting on the first page of search results.
5. What are your future plans for 2015 and beyond?
We would really like to expand our market share on a national level but that is still a little ways down the road, until then we will continue to stay humble and work hard for our current clients to make sure we set them up for success. Bottom line, if we set them up for success hopefully they will set us up for success by continually giving us these awesome referrals!
