Today I am presenting another written interview with Jerremy Newsome who is a day trader. He teaches others how to do this over at Real Life Trading.
Check out the interview:
1. What got you interested in the stock market and day trading? Share your story.
The movie Forrest Gump. Remember near the end, when he said “LT. Dan invested in some kind of fruit company and they didn’t have to worry about money any more”. And the company was AAPL of course. Well, I asked my dad what he meant and he began to explain the stock market, trading, finance and I became hooked. I started selling black berries door to door at the age of 7 to fund an investment account. I related to Forrest a lot as a kid because people always thought I was “odd” and I grew up in a very rural city in the south.
2. For those who are unfamiliar with day trading, tell us a bit more about it and where others can learn about it?
With the internet capacity of 2015 and beyond, along with the speed and power of computers, I believe everyone has direct access to the markets. Day trading is finding a company (like Walmart or Disney) and buying shares at $100 and selling those shares at $101 on the same day (as an example). If you had 100 shares, that’s $100 profit. If you risk .50 per shares, that’s a $50 risk for a $100 profit and that is trading 101. Small losses, bigger gains, consistently over time. I teach any age, knowledge level or income level how to read the markets and understand the vast opportunities that are involved. And I teach this information totally for free at reallifetrading.com and specifically at http://www.reallifetrading.com/free-products/day-trading
3. What would be a good reason for someone to get involved in day trading?
There are numerous reasons someone might enjoy the opportunities of day trading, or stock trading in general. No degree is required, it’s free to learn, you can make some money doing it and the only real access required is a computer with internet.
4. How profitable is this type of model as an additional source of income?
Exactly. Great word. Additional source of income. My model at Real Life Trading is, well, the real life perspective of trading. If your passion is writing, or engineering, painting, poetry, perhaps you are a real estate agent, doctor, lawyer or policeman, we all have bills. Mortgages, electric bills and most of us want to make more money. My mission is To Enrich Lives and show people how they can use the stock market to pull out a few extra dollars here and there every (day, week, month, year) whatever time frame they are interested in. Let me read you a text message I received from a friend of mine this morning at 5:25 am. His name is Felix. “Btw I seriously appreciate all you’ve done for me. Been thinking about my trading journey more as people start to ask about it. I think there were plenty times where I would have quit if you hadn’t known exactly what to say to get me back on track. Now I’m making enough money trading to pay rent and care lease already even with a small portfolio, which for me as a 20 year old college student is incredible. And it’s just the beginning 🙂 thanks for everything boss :)”
5. How much do you recommend people invest into day trading when starting out?
Another great question. My suggestion is $2,500 – $3,000. Or, $0.000 and practice virtual trading for a few months and great a solid trading plan and learn how to be disciplined and consistent. Trading is about becoming the person you need to become in order to trade successfully, which is a consistent, disciplined, patient, caring person. After all, isn’t that what life is all about anyway? You build up solid traits like that, it doesn’t matter what field you are in. You’ll be successful.
6. What are your future plans for 2015 and beyond?
Honestly, I want to rival Jim Cramer. He’s an amazing guy, very bright but doesn’t have any real competition in that space. I have always wanted to be an “actor” but lack the look, charisma, charm, you know – everything actors need. Oh, and I’m terrible and remembering lines. I am simply a good trader but an even better teacher. That’s what I’ve wanted to do for a long time now, is teach others (and that’s what I do now). So teaching, being on tv in front of a crowd, educating, entertaining and enriching lives regarding finance, budgeting, investment and living and full and happy life is my kind of dream!
