Today I present another written interview with Jan Pluto, owner of the social media site Fallterms.com
Checkout the interview:
1. What got you interested in starting a social network site? Share your story.
I had an idea originally for a college dating website. As I started to develop the website I started to add more and more features to the site that I thought the college student could use. At the time I was a junior in college at Penn Stat university, so I sort of knew what college students needed to help them in there college career. As I started adding more and more to the websites which at the time was college-dates.com, I realize that there is a whole other world out there that a college student would need access to. So fallterms was born.
2. Have you found it’s challenging to compete in the social network space considering how many other social networking platforms exist today?
I know fallterms would be classified under the social networking category, but I truly believe fallterms is a new breed. You have other networking sites like twitter which focuses on quick trending topics, and facebook is more of a realm of communication between friends, and linked-in is of course business. Fallterms, is about bring the entire college world to your finger tips, and its not about the friends you already know, its about expanding you network and meeting new people. That is just the networking aspect of fallterms, we have other features like classified ads for buying and sell and finding jobs or internships, college news, events, groups, chat rooms, and much more. So I think we are a very diverse networking multi-platform site.
3. How have you gone about promoting the site? Do you use any specific tactics such as SEO, paid advertising, social media etc?
Right now we have used SEO to bring in new members. We have students on campus that like to spread the word for us, and event most flyers around campuses. Fallterms has a facebook and twitter. Fallterms has received media attention, including news papers, journals, radio, online blogs and more.
4. What are some features of your platform that help make you different from other social networks?
Was mostly answered in question 2.
5. What are your future plans for 2014 and beyond?
Our plans are to become the number 1 used website for college students, and be able to provide them with all the tools they need for their long journey in the educational world, and provide this all at their fingertips. We have a ton of more ideas and features for the site we will be rolling out, we have apps coming soon for both android and apple. And our high hopes are to breakout international, so we can help all around the world.
