Learning How To Optimize Local SEO With Mark Herre – Ep. 63

On today’s episode I interviewed Mark Herre. Mark has been offering SEO services to businesses since 1994, I had yet to have anyone on the show to discuss Local SEO so we decided to tackle that as the topic for today’s episode.

You can check out Mark’s site over at

We spent a lot of time discussing some must have pieces that will be needed when optimizing your site for local SEO. Setting up Google Authorship, Google Places and using elements to help your appearance in search such as and Rich Text Snippet Mark Up.

Mark stresses how important it is to work with clients who are willing to take what they have learned and run with it to continuously be able to do their own SEO work after he shows his clients what do to. He compares this to a lot of typical SEO Agencies that will do work for a client and never exactly explain what’s going on behind the scenes, where as Mark wants his clients to learn and be able to produce results themselves.

Mark typically uses a lot of web 2.0 sites for ranking his clients content, using free sources such as to create free blogs for his clients to manually create articles and backlinks for ranking content.
Mark also shared a blueprint he follows for Local SEO Optimization, check it out:

Social Media And Content Marketing With Erik Deckers – Ep. 39

In today’s episode I interviewed Erik Deckers. Erik is the author of multiple books covering topics like social media and content marketing.

No Bullshit Social Media

The Owned Media Doctrine

Erik actually reached out to me after finding me over on iTunes, this was an eye opener for me because months ago I was e-mailing every guest and now I’m starting to have people find me and ask to be on the show!

In this episode we talked about various topics including Social Media, Content Marketing, Google Authorship for SEO and Markup for SEO.

Authorship is basically when search results show a picture next to the site, it makes a big difference in how blog posts stand out to others on the search engines.

Here is an example:

Schema Markup is an advanced way to display criteria that could be useful for people searching for content on Google. Let’s say someone looks up an item that is on an eCommerce based store, the search result might show a 1-5 star rating and the current price of the item right in the search results.

Here is an example from eBay:

We also discussed a few newer social media sites that Erik has been using here and there.
