The test in getting your product to as many people as you can is in how your website ranks in the search engine results. This may sound like a straightforward thing to do, higher rank in the search engine equals more traffic, but in order to get yourself to that point there are many things to take into consideration. The task of online marketing is a business all in itself, and there are many consulting companies that make a living by telling people how to get their site high up in the rankings. But what if you don’t have the funds to hire a company? What if you are a small sized business that is barely scraping by? Surely you need the hits more than anybody? There are methods that you can implement, so let’s start with those.

Making Sure That You Publish Content That Is Relevant

To get yourself further up the rankings, it is a very simple method that is first and foremost. Having content that is good enough, and that is specifically for your intended user will increase the amount of website hits and will make your site more relevant. Being a jack of all trades on the internet may sound like you are covering all bases, but that makes you a master of none, and it especially makes you a master of being low in the search engine rankings. So how do you become more relevant? Put in key search terms into your content, whether it is blogs or anything else. But this is not an excuse to have links every couple of words in an article. Good content is the key.

Make Sure That Your Site Has Relevant Links

Instead of “click here” be more specific. “Click here” has no value in a search engine. Be intelligent with your linking, and look at this list from Brandon Hopkins for ideas on building links.

Be Sure To Use “Alt Tags”

This is short for “alternative text descriptions” and these permit search engines to locate your page using these tags, which is very useful for those that have text-only browsers.

Be Regular

Updating your site on a regular basis will translate into how your site is ranked. This is something that the smaller companies with a basic WordPress site should take on board. As it is not enough anymore to just have a site, you need to be constantly adding to it, pictures, blogs, videos, links, anything that you can muster that will keep your site up to date. If not, your website will slip down the pages fast!

Try And Get Other Sites To Link To You

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Getting yourself on other sites that are relevant to what you do is a smart move. And it’s purely a case of just asking politely sometimes, especially if you are just starting out. But the more doors you knock on, the more your site is out there, and it can spiral out from there.
