A couple of decades ago, marketing a business was significantly simpler than it is today.
Handing out or posting flyers and hanging posters and billboards would catch the attention of potential customers who would then be aware of your business. But these days, the market is global and so it’s not just people in your local area you need to be appealing to. On top of this, consumers wants and expectations have changed, and so as a modern business it’s important to make sure your adverts and marketing materials are appealing to the right people. Here are some more up to date techniques which have been shown to be effective in modern business.
Social media marketing
One of the biggest things to come out of the internet in the past ten years has been social media. We’re now more connected than ever before- not only is this great from a personal point of view, but it’s something businesses can take advantage of. Your first step is to amass a following, and you can do that by offering potential followers and customers something. For example, you could host a giveaway, asking people to follow you for a chance to win. You could share funny or interesting marketing materials or content from your blog, and you could let your followers be the first to hear about deals and discounts. Once you have a good following, the information you share on your social pages will be seen by many people- and best of all, it’s all free. If you’re posting ‘share friendly’ content, this will then be shared by your followers to be seen by their followers and can have a snowball effect. You could hire a social media manager, or assign this to be part of the role for one of your existing employees who has a background or knowledge in this area. Otherwise you could hire an experienced freelancer on a longer term basis to manage your accounts for you.
Content marketing
Content marketing is based on the idea that you’re creating interesting content- not to directly promote your business but instead to generate interest around it. For example, a share- friendly or viral article which links you your product, service or business as a way to give more information could mean lots of clicks to your site. Another great thing about content marketing is the backlinks, if you’re working with bloggers with a decent domain authority for example, every time a link to your business is placed on their site, in time it can bump up your ranking in search engines. This means more organic traffic for you! It can be tricky working with bloggers as you will need to know how much to pay them based on their site, and know that you’re working with reliable people. It can be easier to outsource the work to a digital marketing agency, who will have plenty of good bloggers on their books and have content created with links placed quickly.
Video marketing
Video is one of the most consumed types of content on the web. Having a video on a landing page of a site massively increases the chances of a customer then making a sale. Video can also make you look trustworthy and professional- be sure to have it created by a professional company.
Is your business utilising all of these methods?
