We’ve all made mistakes before, and it’s easy to learn our lesson from them. But there are many mistakes when marketing online that can be avoided. It is a golden time for the creative industry, with their being a worldwide audience online that can view your work. The only thing you have to do is to get your work in front of the waiting audience and know how to do it.
Relying on a portfolio:
You can have the most amazing portfolio, but that isn’t enough to make you stand out online anymore. The work may be outstanding. But you need to market yourself if you are to draw traffic to your portfolio and get your work seen by the masses. One way you could attract more people to your portfolio would be to offer them something for nothing. You could give them a free subscription to a newsletter or a blog about your work. Whatever you choose to give away, make sure it offers some value to the reader so that they keep coming back; and spend some money on your work in the future. If you don’t fancy doing the marketing yourself, then you could always hire a company like ICS creative agency to do the tricky stuff for you.

Narcissistic posts on social media:
You must know what kind of post I’m talking about here. Those posts where the creative is talking about how hard their day has been working on their art. Those posts where the person is discussing their personal philosophy of life and complaining about the world in general. People won’t buy from people who post stuff like this, and they won’t want to subscribe to your future posts. It’s easy to get caught up in social media and to spread your opinion like it’s your last day on earth, but please try to avoid doing this. To be successful online, you should be aiming to inform, entertain and educate. You can do this by posting how-to videos on your social media, or by posting funny one-liners and music that inspires the mind. Post engaging content rather than narcissistic posts about your struggles in life. There are many creative ways to market your work; you just need to know what to do.
Not building a mailing list:
You should use your blog or website to gather email addresses of potential customers and audiences. You can use this information to market your creative output to them and to encourage them to keep visiting your site. Not gathering this vital information is somewhat like having a bucket with a hole in it. No matter how much traffic your website gets, it will all just keep falling through that hole. It’s easy to set up a sign-up list. All you need to do is place it in a prominent part of your website and let people flock to you. Then you can use that information to send out newsletters and notifications of new blog posts. It’s all about keeping your audience engaged in your output.
